Add Captions to Videos
Subtitles are often overlooked when uploading content. Auto-generated captions can catch the gist of a message, but make plenty of mistakes. Having accurate captions is crucial not only for accessibility & inclusivity, but also because 80% of people are more likely to watch a video the whole way through with good captioning (Verizon Media). For your brand, that means more engagement.
Luckily, you can create your own separate captions file (either .SRT, .SBV, .VTT) to upload with your video to create easy, accurate subtitles across several different platforms.
At Greyduck, we include an .SRT file with every applicable video, but creating them on your own is easy too. Here’s how we do it:
1. Upload your video to YouTube
2. Publish it as an Unlisted video
3. Once published, click the Subtitles tab, then Add
4. Select Auto-sync and paste in the video’s script
5. Here, you can reformat your captions to make sure each screen is legible.
6. Once it’s finished processing, you can download your SRT file.
